Bay Area CoolSculpting in Marin County
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is the newest way to remove fat from your body and benefit from no
scarring. You also get other advantages, such as not having to go through a surgical
procedure, such as the case with liposuction
. Here is some helpful information about
what CoolSculpting is, how it works and other things you should be aware of.
The CoolSculpting Process
CoolSculpting works by using a type of cold energy to remove your fat cells
permanently. CoolSculpting is done in our Novato, CA office by using a machine that pulls your problem areas between two
cooling plates, hence the name CoolSculpting. A very high-powered vacuum holds
your fat in place while the plates get activated to a low enough temperature for them to
die. During this process, only your fat cells are destroyed. Your skin, nerves and blood
vessels are perfectly fine. For each problem area, the process takes about an hour and
you can sometimes do more than one area at any given time.
How Does Fat Disappear?
One of the most common questions in regards to CoolSculpting is: where exactly does
the fat disappear to? In actuality, the fat is the same size after the procedure, but over
the new few weeks, it begins shrinking on its own. Since your fat is inside of fat cells,
the CoolSculpting process kills those fat cells, which then shrinks the size of the fat in
your body. Approximately 20 percent of your fat cells are killed permanently, so it will
take 2-3 weeks before you start seeing the results. It is important that you understand
this isn't a weight loss procedure or type of weight loss surgery. It is shrinking or
sculpting certain areas of your body. So you do still need to stick to a regular diet and
exercise routine for losing weight.
Are There Any Risks?
As with all types of medical procedures, CoolSculpting does have some minor side
effects, though the risks are extremely minimal. The more common side effects are
soreness, bruising and numbness that is temporary. Most people who get this done feel
nothing during and after the procedure is complete. Other side effects are rare, but they
include numbness lasting a week or longer in that area, increased pain and soreness.
Though it is still significantly less than if you got liposuction
Is This the Same as Liposuction?
No it is definitely not the same thing. There are a lot of people who have gotten
CoolSculpting and millions who have gotten liposuction. In the end, the decision is
based on personal preference. Liposuction
is considered a type of surgery, while
CoolSculpting is more minimally invasive. Though these procedures get rid of fat in
slightly different way. Liposuction is killing the fat itself, while CoolSculpting instead is
killing the fat cells. The benefit of CoolSculpting over liposuction is much less pain,
bruising and soreness, no swelling and no compression garments to be worn.
Is it Permanent?
CoolSculpting is a way to permanently kill your fat cells in the area you choose.
Approximately 20 percent of your fat cells are destroyed, but keep in mind, they can
grow back. Only if you keep off the weight, will it be truly a permanent way of sculpting
that area. If you gain weight again, then the fat cells will grow again. Of course, you can
get it done more than once, but proper diet and fitness is recommended to avoid doing
this. However, another reason for getting repeat sessions done is to return 2-3 months
later for more of the fat cells to be destroyed with the CoolSculpting process.
CoolSculpting may just be the next best thing for shrinking and sculpting your problem
areas. Contact Dr. Delgado
