CoolSculpting Recovery

If you have been looking into CoolSculpting to lose fat in your problem areas but are concerned about the recovery time and experience, look no further. This information will guide you through what to expect during and after the procedure. As you will soon find out, it is a simple procedure with very little side effects and an easy recovery process.

About CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting gets rid of your fat cells. It isn't immediate results, but within weeks, your fat literally shrinks as if it is disappearing. The technology used for this procedure is called cooling technology, which uses cooling plates and a painless laser to kill about 20 percent of your fat cells. Within 1-2 weeks, you start noticing the fat in those areas lessening more and more.

How the Process Works

CoolSculpting works by destroying fat cells in the problem areas of your body. Because it is not considered a weight loss procedure, you must meet certain eligibility requirements. For example, you should only be about 20-30 pounds overweight, and have no more than a couple inches of fat in the area you want this procedure done. This is because that area will be pinched and placed between two cooling plates. These plates hold your fat area with a vacuum suction device, then when the plates reach a certain temperature, 20 percent of the fat cells are destroyed. This takes about an hour to complete.

Where Your Fat Goes

If it sounds like a good idea but you're wondering where exactly the fat goes, don't worry; it will make more sense in a minute. Shortly after the procedure is complete, you will be exactly the same size. It is not like a weight loss procedure where the fat is gone instantaneously. It actually takes about 2-3 weeks for the fat in this area to shrink to where it will be. The fat cells are destroyed, not the fat itself. So over a few weeks, the destroyed cells cause those fat areas to shrink.

The Potential Side Effects and Risks

One of the greater benefits of CoolSculpting is that there are minimal risks and side effects involved. This is going to offer you a much easier recovery time. Unlike liposuction and even laser procedures, you can get back to your normal activities right away. Part of the reason for this, is because there are very few side effects. The most common ones are minor bruising, soreness and numbness of the area. The amount of soreness experienced really depends on the person, but for most, it isn't enough to cause you any real problems. Occasionally, someone has numbness or soreness for a longer period of time, but that is extremely rare.

Recovery

For the majority of people getting CoolSculpting, there isn't any type of downtime. This makes your recovery practically non-existent. Most people have minor bruising or soreness, which is gone in the same day or after a few days. If you need to get back to work the following day, there shouldn't be any sort of problem. Most people even get back to activities a few hours after having the procedure done.

Another thing to consider is that depending on your skin elasticity, you may experience slight droopiness or loose skin after the fat starts shrinking after a few weeks. But this is also rare because only a small amount of fat is going to shrink.

With such a short recovery time, it is no surprise that this is becoming a popular way to shrink fat and sculpt your problem areas. Contact Dr. Delgado to find out if you're a good candidate for the procedure.
