FAQ on CoolSculpting
CoolSculpting is the newest way to literally shed off fat in your problem areas. It is
different from other procedures in that it doesn't cause much pain, soreness or bruising,
and gets you back to your normal activities the same day. Here are the most commonly
asked questions and answers about this procedure, how it works and if it is effective.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a new, revolutionary way to get rid of stubborn fat areas of your body.
It is a non-invasive procedure that uses a new type of cooling technology for killing fat
cells. By getting this procedure, you avoid having to get surgery, and the pain, recovery
and scarring to go along with it. Not everyone is a good candidate, so it is important that
you consult your physician to discuss if you should get this procedure.
How Long Does it Take?
The CoolSculpting process generally takes about an hour, start to finish, though it can
last up to three hours if you are getting more than one section done at a time. Each
section will take about an hour to get it prepared and use the cooling plates to destroy
the fat cells in that region.
How Does the Treatment Process Work?
The CoolSculpting process begins with your consultation
. The doctor wants to be sure
you are a good candidate for the procedure
and examine the areas of your body you
want to get it done. They can't fit more than a couple inches between the cooling plates,
so they need to verify how much fat is in those regions. On the day of your procedure,
you will have the section of fat pinched and sucked in place with a vacuum device. It will
then be placed into two cooling plates where the low temperatures are able to kill the fat
cells permanently. About 20 percent of the fat cells can be destroyed with one session.
Will I Feel It?
You won't feel a type of pain, but you do feel the coldness of the plates and a small
amount of pressure. This only lasts for a few minutes, then the rest of the hour is spent
doing whatever you're able to in that position. It is not uncommon for people to read a
book or use their phone during the session. Afterward, you may have a little numbness,
bruising or soreness, but it won't last long.
What Will the Results Be?
You won't notice a loss of fat right away. A percentage of your fat cells in the area
are removed, so it takes a few weeks for the fat to start shrinking. You will notice the
beginning of the results
about 2-3 weeks after treatment, and may continue seeing
results up to 8 weeks later. It is considered permanent, since the fat cells are killed.
But keep in mind, if you gain weight after the procedure or fail to follow a good fitness
routine, fat cells can re-form in the same area.
Can I Get Repeat Sessions Done?
You can, but doctors advise waiting at least 2-3 months before returning. This is how
long it takes for the fat in that area to shrink as much as it is going to. Then, if your
doctor permits it, you can destroy any new fat cells that have formed. You can also get it
done in multiple areas, such as your love handles and your abdomen, but it takes about
an hour for each separate area.
With this information, you can better decide if the CoolSculpting procedure
seems like a
good fit for you.
