PRIOR TO SURGERY
A personal consultation is the first step for every patient considering an Arm Lift. During this appointment, Dr. Delgado will ask the patient to discuss his/her concerns about the appearance of the arms. In addition, he will explain the variables that will affect the procedure, such as age, size of the arms and condition of the skin. He may use digital photography and computer imaging to facilitate the discussion, as computer imaging can show the location of the incisions as well as generate a realistic image of the outcome.
The patient will be provided with a detailed preoperative booklet that lists pre- and post-operative instructions, including information about medications. For example, the booklet explains that all aspirin and aspirin-containing products, including anti-inflammatory products, must be stopped two weeks before and two weeks after surgery, as these compounds can interfere with the blood’s ability to clot. (Tylenol may be safely taken during this time.) Included is a list of homeopathic preparations and vitamins that promote healing and minimize bruising which the patient can opt to take prior to and after surgery.
Most arm lifts are performed under general anesthesia. This is typically performed in an outpatient surgery center or a hospital.
